Synopsis: Blitz, a gallant fire horse, is plunged into a life of misery when a man’s greed causes tragedy.
Unfortunately, I believe Blitz is out of print. I remember reading this book when I was a girl, and my daughter has fond memories of reading it many years ago, as well. My three oldest boys and I read it together recently, and they loved it as much as I did.
Blitz tells the story of a gallant horse. His first years of life were idyllic, spent on a lovely farm with his mother and learning to be an obedient, hard-working horse. When he was four years old he was taken to the fair to be sold, and his new owner bought him to be a fire horse. Blitz quickly learned the joy of racing to a fire and was always anxious to take off to the fire station as soon as the whistle began to blow. One night, however, a man’s greed led to tragedy and Blitz found himself living under horrible conditions. Would he ever learn to trust men again? Would his pain-filled, starving life be the end of him?
Blitz is a heart-warming story of love and kindness. If you have a child who loves horses, this would be a wonderful book to find for them. I would call it a living book, not twaddle at all.
