Synopsis: When Katie discovers the bakery ransacked and robbed one morning, what will she do when she finds the guilty party?
I would not have read Blueberry Cupcake Mystery if I hadn’t won it in a giveaway. One of my favorite authors reviewed it and gave away a copy, so I ended up reading it. I’m sorry, but it has confirmed my dislike of most Amish fiction.
The story itself is very sweet. One morning, Katie arrived at work at The Sweet Shop, and discovered that the bakery had been ransacked during the night. Most of the special breads had been stolen. Who would do such a thing—and why? After the police come, Katie starts baking more bread and cupcakes at a nearby cafe, but she keeps thinking about what happened. That afternoon, she discovers the culprits—but what will she do with what she has discovered?
I would say that Blueberry Cupcake Mystery is more a story for young adults than for adults. It is written very simply. Like I said, I thought the storyline itself was sweet—but what I don’t like is the way the author tried to make it quaint. The use of Pennsylvania Dutch words sprinkled throughout is apparently meant to add character—but it sure doesn’t add authenticity! I have known Amish people all my life, and they don’t talk the way they are portrayed in this book.
If you like “Amish fiction”, and just want a cozy mystery, you will enjoy Blueberry Cupcake Mystery.
