Finding Christmas Joy
post written by Esther Filbrun
Title: Finding Christmas Joy
Author: Amanda Tero
Major Themes: Christmas, Faith, Hope, Joy
Synopsis: After her engagement was broken just days before the wedding, Melonie needs some time to reset and find hope again.
Having enjoyed all the other Tero short stories I’ve read, I was thrilled to get to beta-read Finding Christmas Joy. I’ve always enjoyed Christmas stories, especially after reading A Christmas Carol and falling in love with Tiny Tim and Mr. Scrooge. So when I started this book, and discovered a character in a heart-wrenching situation who is trying to find relief, I instantly knew that I would likely end up loving the story.
Melonie’s fiancé has just called off their marriage…just days before the wedding. Now, world reeling around her, Melonie is seeking a retreat far away from anything that might remind her of her crushed dreams, and a Christmas lodge seems like the best option.
Even away from home, though, Melonie is still struggling. Is there any way she can find help with her pain, even though everyone else is celebrating a wonderfully happy holiday?
I loved the simple, straight-forward message in Finding Christmas Joy. The story itself was beautiful, encapsulating the loving atmosphere of family and coziness and joy in ways I’ve rarely seen in other books. In all, this was a beautiful short story, and I’m greatly looking forward to others Ms. Tero may be publishing in the near future!
Oh, and one last thing. Even though I read this in July, I wanted to snuggle down with a cup of hot chocolate just like they did—and the temptation was so strong I made myself a mug before I finished reading the story! Just be warned, if that could be a temptation to you, too. 😉
I requested a review copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.
