Martha, by Gennady SpirinTitle: Martha
Author: Gennady Spirin
Major Themes: Russia, Moscow, Crows, Birds
Synopsis: The story, in words and beautiful pictures, of a crow that was rescued by the author’s wife and son.

One snowy winter day in Moscow, Grennady Spirin’s wife and son came home from a walk in the park with an injured crow. They took the crow, who had a broken wing, to the vet, only to be told that it would never recover and they should just put it to sleep. Young Ilya couldn’t accept that verdict, however, so they took the crow home, named her Martha, and cared for her.

Gennady Spirin tells the sweet story, and illustrates it with beautiful paintings, of how his wife and son rescued a crow. We loved this story!
