Who was Thomas Jefferson? What was he like as a child? What sort of times did he live in? And what did he do that makes him famous? These questions, and more, are answered in Meet Thomas Jefferson, a book for young readers. With 18 chapters, each with only 3-4 pages, and simple language, this is a good book with which children can practice their reading. As a read-aloud, it doesn’t take long to get through; we read it in about half an hour.
The first few chapters tell about Thomas’s boyhood in the hills of Virginia. He was an outdoors boy, and also a practical joker. By the time he was 24, he was a lawyer, and then he became the youngest member of the House of Burgesses. Soon, he was quite involved with the political troubles between England and the American colonies, but he was also a devoted husband and father.
For an easy reader, Meet Thomas Jefferson has a lot of information. It tells the highlights of Jefferson’s entire life and career in a very interesting way. For those children who want to read a true story, this is a great choice!
