Title: Mystery History of the Trojan Horse
Author: Jim Pipe
Series: Mystery History
Major Themes: Ancient Greece, Sparta, Trojan War
Synopsis: An introduction to Greek history, in the form of puzzles.
I found Mystery History of the Trojan Horse to be quite interesting. It is a brief introduction to Greek history, from the Trojan Wars to the time of Alexander the Great. My boys spent a lot of time studying this book. It is full of puzzles and mysteries to solve, which keep children’s interest. Each 2-page spread presents some information about the topic of the page, and then there are three questions, which are answered at the bottom of the page. There are hidden pictures to search for, and a puzzle to solve on each page as well, and a mystery that runs through the entire book: Who is the Spartan spy? Can you find him? We did paper-clip pages 16 and 17 together, about the Spartans, because they showed nude women playing games. That is probably historically accurate, but we don’t need to be seeing it. It does portray the women from the back, but still not what we want to be looking at.
