New Faces, New Friends

New Faces, New Friends by Arleta RichardsonTitle: New Faces, New Friends
Author: Arleta Richardson
Series: Grandma’s Attic, book 9
Major Themes: Michigan, Pioneer Life
Synopsis: As Mabel anticipates becoming a mother, she finds herself in trouble in the community through the indiscretion of someone else.

As I’ve said several times already, we are thoroughly enjoying the Grandma’s Attic series. We’re nearing the end, though, with New Faces, New Friends being the second-to-last. I’ve been amazed at how much everyone wants to hear these stories. Of course, I’m greatly enjoying them as well.

Mabel has now finished her last year of teaching school; she is eagerly anticipating becoming a mother shortly before Christmas, so will no longer teach. Her life is never dull, however. A new arrival in North Branch looks so much like Mabel that even Len was fooled. When the minister in a nearby community becomes interested in the newcomer, but is too shy to talk to her himself, he makes a series of blunders that make people talk about Mabel. How can they clear up the gossip? Once again, Mabel has found herself in trouble, and this time it is through no fault of her own.

As with all the other books in the series, this one has very strong Christian values. Len, Mabel, Sarah Jane and their friends have a sincere desire to live their lives according to the Bible, and as a result are able to help people in a unique way.

Another reason I love this book, and the whole series, is that they are set in Michigan, my home state, in pioneer times. The description of the way people lived then is quite interesting. If you liked the Little House books, you will also enjoy Grandma’s Attic.

No warnings!
