Synopsis: Rosie raises an orphaned foal, and makes a new friend.
When I was young, say between about 8 and 12 years old, I loved horses and read everything I could find about them. At this point, a horse story doesn’t do a lot for me, but since I know there are a lot of girls like I was, I read horse stories sometimes. The review I saw recently of the Sonrise Stable series was intriguing, so I downloaded the free first book in the series, Rosie and Scamper.
Rosie’s grandmother has always loved horses, and has two of them. Rosie spends a lot of time with her grandmother, learning to ride and taking care of the horses. She is really excited about the baby that Jet is going to have, but tragedy strikes and Rosie has to help raise the orphaned baby Scamper. Two years quickly pass, and soon Rosie can ride her young pony as she learns to know the neighbor’s foster daughter.
Rosie is homeschooled, which means she has a lot of time available after her work is done each day to work with the ponies. Her family are also strong Christians, and her grandmother frequently brings out truths about God through things that happen with the horses. This is a very simple story, with not much conflict, but young girls who love horses will enjoy it. They will learn about God and about horses, as well as be encouraged to make friends with new people.
