Title: The Missing Mummy
Author: Ron Roy
Series: A to Z Mysteries
Major Themes: Egypt, Mummies, Museums, Mysteries
Synopsis: When the mummy was suddenly stolen in front of them at the museum, the three children tried to figure out who did it and why.

The Missing Mummy is one I never would have chosen to buy or read to my children, except that it was scheduled in as a read-aloud with the curriculum I’m using with my 6-year-old. It turned out that she loved it, and so did my 11- and 9-year-old boys. I caught both of them reading ahead at different times; they had both finished the book long before I did.

Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose saw a notice in the newspaper about the special days that would be held at the museum. Mummy Monday, Tyrannosaurus Tuesday, and the other fun days sounded like so much fun that they earned enough money to buy the tickets to go. They were enjoying learning about mummies in ancient Egypt when suddenly a woman snatched the child mummy and ran away with it! Why would she do such a thing?

The children spend the next few days trying to figure out who stole the mummy and why, and who was involved in some other mysterious thing that happened in the museum. Finally, on Wet Wednesday, they solved the mystery—how?

The Missing Mummy is a great way to hook children into reading, judging by our experience. All three of my younger children loved it, and it was easy enough to read that even the boy who struggles some with reading got through it quickly.
