The Treasure Hunt by Kate WillisTitle: The Treasure Hunt
Author: Kate Willis
Major Themes: Family Life
Synopsis: When the middle children in a large family find themselves terribly bored one summer day, their older sisters come to the rescue.

One evening I had a few snow peas to snap, and wanted something to read while I did the job. (Yes, I read while I work whenever I can—snapping peas is a mindless job that I don’t even have to use my eyes for!) I opened my Kindle to see what I could find to read, since I didn’t have a book going at the time, and saw The Treasure Hunt. My daughter had just downloaded it and sent it to my Kindle as well, and my son had read it and loved it, so I decided to have a look myself. Fifteen minutes later, the peas were snapped and I had finished the book!

The Treasure Hunt is a short, sweet story about a loving family. It’s a great book for young readers who need something simple but interesting, and safe. I loved the way the older children in the family did something special for the younger ones and kept them busy and entertained!

David and Anna were bored at the beginning of the summer. Then one day, they found a mysterious note wrapped around a wooden block. After puzzling over it for awhile, they followed the clue to another note…and then another. Each one took awhile to figure out. Finally, they found—you’ll have to read the book yourself!

As a homeschool graduate, and one of the older children in a large family, the author knows what living with many siblings is like. She has captured large family life perfectly in this delightful, short book. You may find your children wanting to create their own treasure hunt after reading it, though—my boy was pleased to get some new ideas!
