Treasures From Grandma by Arleta RichardsonTitle: Treasures From Grandma
Author: Arleta Richardson
Series: Grandma’s Attic, book 4
Major Themes: Family Life, Michigan, Pioneers
Synopsis: Mabel and Sarah Jane learn lessons from the scrapes they get into as schoolgirls over 100 years ago in Michigan.

I have always loved the Grandma’s Attic books, and Treasures From Grandma is no exception. The format of the stories changes a little in this one from the previous books in the series. They are no longer told in the form of Grandmother telling stories to her granddaughter; instead, Mabel simply tells her stories.

Even though Mabel and Sarah Jane are now 12 or 14 years old, they still find themselves getting in scrapes regularly as they are growing up in the late 1800s in Michigan. They do everything possible together, still, though! Whether it is plotting to help a classmate lose weight, or going to a party on Sunday when they know their parents will not approve, everything they get into becomes another opportunity to learn a lesson. You will enjoy learning along with Mabel as she helps to make a visit with crusty Cousin Agatha more pleasant, struggles with whether or not she and Sarah Jane are doing wrong by forging a signature, and tries to prove that she is really responsible now.

Arleta Richardson has done a superb job of bringing the past to life in this entertaining series of books that your whole family will enjoy.
