This is a lovely picture book! I had seen it in the library before, but never got it out until I read a brief review of it recently. What a treasure.

Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge, a small boy who isn’t very old either, lives next door to an old people’s home. He loves the residents and often visits them. One day he hears his parents talking about his favorite old lady, Miss Nancy. She has lost her memory, they say. He wants to know what a memory is, so he starts asking people and getting various answers—something warm, something small, something that makes you cry…. So, Wilfred begins collecting memories for Miss Nancy!

I loved the way Wilfred interacts with the old people. It’s too bad they had to live in an old people’s home, but heartwarming the way he visited them so much and made their lives so much happier. The pictures aren’t quite my style; they aren’t the realistic ones I prefer, but still nice. My little boys like this story pretty well.
